The Call to Worship

Posted by Dr. Joseph Slade on

John 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

I’ve noticed through the many years I’ve served in the ministry that most congregants are confused about the difference between worship and praise.

  • Worship is reverence, awe, and adoration that spontaneously and automatically flows from a heart that has been washed in the blood of the Lamb.

  • Praise is expressing that love, reverence and adoration and it is always demonstrated vocally, audibly or visibly, emotionally. The key to fulfilling the Lord’s Call to Worship is to give God His rightful place.

To talk to God. Come into His presence magnifying and glorifying Him for who He is, for His awesome power, and for His grace, mercy, and faithfulness.

Love Him with your whole heart (refusing to place anyone or anything above Him) your soul (the seat of your feelings, emotions, affections) your mind centered on Him.

There are two main results of true worship:

  1. God shall be glorified when you give Him the honor and glory due to Him
  2. You will be blessed. God will fill your heart with joy and peace.

My prayer is that true worship and adoration for our God will constantly flow from our hearts and bring glory to His Holy Name.
